Saxophonist Frank Catalano at Cellar Jazz This Weekend
Vancouver is in for a treat this weekend as tenor saxophonist Frank Catalano appears in quartet Friday & Saturday, September 15th & 16th. The Chicago based artist will be joined for the performance by the great Miles Black (piano), Paul Rushka (bass), and Julian McDonough (drums).
At age 26, Catalano is one of the bright lights of jazz, performing with an impressive list of legends including Tony Bennett, Louis Bellson, Charles Earland, Ira Sullivan, Tito Puente, David Sandborn, Betty Carter, members of N’Sync and Blue Man Group, Les Claypool, John Medeski and many more. He is the youngest saxophonist ever voted into the Downbeat Critics Poll.
Frank has three critically acclaimed CD’s on the Delmark label which include tracks with Von Freeman and Randy Brecker. Frank graduated from DePaul University with a degree in classical composition. As both a Yamaha and Vandoren endorsee, Frank hosts clinics throughout the country. As Vandoren’s spokesperson, he is featured in Vandoren’s international advertising campaigns.
