Canadian Satellite Radio Gets Green Light

Canadian independent recording artists have won their drive to uphold the original CRTC ruling to award licenses to Canadian Satellite Radio, Sirius Canada and CHUM/Astral.

The Liberal government’s senior cabinet ministers met September 9th, making the decision to deny an appeal of the ruling based on the thousands of letters they received from recording artists in support of the Satellite Radio service.

Independent recording artists in Canada have an ever increasing powerful voice in the industry, many consider them the future of Canadian music. There is a campaign underway to further change the CANCON (Canadian Content) rules to allow for more airplay for emerging and unsigned artists.
