The Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards celebrate Canadian performers who have enriched our lives while they pursued their dreams. Created in 1992 under the patronage of the late Right Honourable Ramon John Hnatyshyn (1934-2002), then Governor General of Canada, the Awards recognize artists who, over a lifetime of achievement, have made an indelible contribution to Canada’s cultural life. Each year, candidates for the Awards are nominated by members of Canada’s performing arts community and the general public. These national Awards are conferred in the realms of theatre, dance, classical music and opera, radio and television broadcasting, popular music, and film.
The Awards are presented to the recipients by Her Excellency the Governor General at a special ceremony at Rideau Hall in Ottawa on November 4th, 2005. The following evening, the recipients are celebrated at a tribute gala at the National Arts Centre.
Tickets for the 2005 Awards Gala (November 5, 2005) are $175.00, $98.50, and $79.50 (taxes included), and are available through all Ticketmaster outlets.
