The blues music scene on the west coast of Canada continues to thrive, generating yet another award winning group with The Blue Voodoo.

The acoustic blues/roots band has been taking the country by storm and will soon capture the hearts of Europeans on their upcoming tour to promote their second release Sparkle and Shine. Canadians have one more month to hear them in the Vancouver area before they head off to the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France, Switzerland and Austria early in the New Year.

The Blue Voodoo with Joni Mitchell

Following on the heels of their 2003 Maple Blues nominated debut CD Ride, The Blue Voodoo released Sparkle and Shine to a burgeoning fan base in Canada, the US, Australia and Europe. The CD showcases their originality, versatility, musicianship and intriguing blues style that has been described as “equal parts of the Band and Little Feat.” Sparkle and Shine has garnered wide acclaim and won them a nomination from the WCMA for the 2005 Outstanding Blues Recording. The group’s third CD is on the way.

The Blue Voodoo have been pleasing crowds throughout western Canada, appearing in venerable clubs such as Blues on Whyte in Edmonton and the Yale in Vancouver. They’ve also captured the attention of Canadian legend Joni Mitchell, who is monitoring their progress and hired them for her 60th birthday party, held on the Sunshine Coast where Mitchell has a home.
