NOJO Hosts Annual HOHO Christmas Party & Food Drive
Monday December 19th, 9pm

If you’re in Toronto Monday December 19th, pop into the Rex Jazz Bar for the NOJOannual Christmas Party. The evening features all 16 members of the JUNO Award winners performing unique and irreverent versions of your Christmas favourites.

Featuring the compositions of pianist Paul Neufeld and guitarist Michael Occhipinti, NOJO is now into its tenth year of producing top-notch recordings, and of performing their Saturday afternoon matinees at Rex Jazz Bar.

The Los Angeles Times has called NOJO “one of the most imaginative large ensembles on the current jazz scene.” The group’s music has notable guest soloists such as saxophonist Joe Lovano, trombonist Ray Anderson, trumpeter Kenny Wheeler, clarinetist Don Byron and saxophonist Sam Rivers, both of whom recorded with NOJO. The group’s new CD, City of Neighbourhoods, features Sam Rivers performing compositions written to feature his work on flute, and soprano and tenor saxophones. The recording has received a 2005 JUNO Award nomination for Best Contemporary Jazz Album.

NOJO won a JUNO Award for ‘Best Contemporary Jazz Album’ for its 1995 self-titled debut CD, and nominations for its three subsequent recordings, FireWater (1996), You Are Here (1998) and Highwire (2002). They also won the 2002 National Jazz Award for ‘Best Big Band’, and nominations in both 2003 and 2004.
