Canadian Bluesman Morgan Davis

Morgan Davis, multiple award winning blues guitarist/songwriter/vocalist, is featured in concert January 13, 2006 as part of The Carma Acoustic Blues Series. The ongoing series runs at the Epcor Centre for the Performing Arts in Calgary.

Davis, who is originally from Detroit, has made his home in Canada since 1968. He has crossed the nation numerous times playing his unique blend of traditional and original blues, well as Europe and the U.S. Playing with a band for the first 25 years of his career, recent years have seen Davis make a successful transition to performing as a solo artist.

During his years on the road, Morgan perfected his repertoire of Blues classics, songs that figure prominently in his performances today. His style is taut and tough, and relies on intensity rather than speed and pyrotechnics to make its point.

Davis award winning CD BLUES MEDICINE was his first solo recording. It captures the music just as it is played live – singing and playing electric guitar. As always, a good dose of humour is present in his original tunes. Davis songwriting talent received international recognition when Colin James covered Morgans composition Whyd You Lie.

His latest, multi award winning release, Painkiller, features 13 original songs and took an impressive 4 awards at the 2004 Maple Blues Awards, and the JUNO for Blues Album of the Year.
