Canadian Jazz at the Montreal Bistro

Written by

Lori Cullen releases a fresh new album, Calling for Rain, at the Montreal Bistro and has already received critical raves from the industry and media.

‘a fresh, young and appealing jazz voice, pure unfiltered delivery’ Toronto Star. ‘Dazzling the coffeehouse circuit,’ Globe & Mail. ‘People just keep coming to me and telling how much they adore her,’ says Bill King in The Jazz Report.

A Toronto born and based singer/songwriter/guitarist, Lori’s been singing, writing and playing guitar for the past 10 years. She has released two albums of self-penned CDs along with a selection of jazz based covers since 2000. With constant critical raves, several four-star reviews, and a Canadian Independent Music nomination, she has been steadily building a rapt audience of music-loving fans.

Along side two original works, Calling for Rain is full of other people’s songs. Rare gems by Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot, Randy Newman, Bruce Cockburn, Richard Thompson, Harry Nilson, Henry Mancini and Irving Berlin. A collection of hand picked mature songs that highlight the craft of song writing and the emotional power of a direct and intimate lyric. Although recorded with a jazz ensemble overdubs of harps, strings and vocal harmonies direct certain tracks to a more pop feel.
