Written by

Calgary celebrates Mardis Gras in true tradition with the veteran Dixieland band Wild Rose All Stars. The popular group will perform Friday & Saturday nights at Cannery Row, a local Cajun restaurant.

Jim English (trombone, trumpet and vocals), longtime leader of the ensemble, is joined by Ed Barlow (sax, clarinet), Rod Schmidt (piano), Greg Baker (drums, vocal), and Keith Jones (bass & tuba). The group features the superb vocals of Hazel Proctor.

Mardi Gras, literally “fat Tuesday”; is a festival day ending a period of celebration and excess, and is immediately followed by Ash Wednesday and Lent.
