CBC Radio One and Sirius Satellite Radio will broadcast live from New Orleans on February 11th, airing a concert from the House of Blues. Featuring local and Canadian artists, the four-hour live-to-air concert will raise funds for two New Orleans Musicians’ charities.

14 Canadian artists are being sent courtesy of CBC to team up with local artists to perform at the fundraiser concert. The exclusive group of jazz, R&B and hip hop stars from Canada include: Daniel Lanois, Delfeayo Marsalis, Jane Bunnett, Buck 65, Richard Underhill, Colin Linden, The Mighty Popo, David Gogo, Kevin Breit, Phil Dwyer, Jimmy Bowskill, Paul Neufeld, Black, Serena Rider and Lennie Gallant. The lineup from New Orleans includes: Kermit Ruffins, Delfeayo Marsalis, Johnny Vidocovich, Roland Guerin, Larry Sieberth and the Soul Rebels Brass Band.

The live broadcast airs nationally on CBC Radio One at 7:05 p.m. EST, and on Sirius Satellite Radio channel 137 at 7:05 pm EST. The fundraiser hopes to sell 1,000 tickets at $10 each to raise funds for the New Orleans Musician’s Clinic, and WWOZ Radio.

According to Producer John Northcott, the CBC is paying all travel and hospitality expenses out of a fund it maintains for remote broadcasts. “We’re doing it to send a message to the world that the spirit and talent of New Orleans is alive and well,” said Northcott. “We’re employing their local musicians for what might be the biggest single fundraiser the city’s ever seen.”

Hurricane Katrina’s devastation forced many musicians to leave New Orleans. Now, Canadian artists inspired by the musical soul of the city are providing a stage for the local players remaining and to help fund the revitalization of the local music scene.

Broadcast dates: Saturday, February 11 2006. CBC Radio One: 7:05 pm EST (8:05 pm Atlantic, 8:35 pm NT, 6:05pm PT) Sirius Channel 137: 7:05 pm EST
