Jazz saxophonists Jay Thomas and Phil Dwyer will appear in concert Victoria and Nanaimo February 17 & 18.

Seattle Jazz Legend Jay Thomas makes the trip north to appear with award winning pianist and saxophonist Phil Dwyer, with Thomas playing tenor, soprano, baritone saxes and trumpet, while Dwyer plays tenor & baritone saxes, as well as piano.

Thomas, a hard bop master, has been a fixture on the Seattle jazz scene since the late 70’s and is in high demand as a sideman. As a leader he has recorded 8 albums. His latest recording, “Accidentally Yours” features renowned pianist Geoff Keezer and his trio.

Dwyer is one of Canada’s leading jazz masters, with a career spanning more than two decades. He is considered a first call studio player and writer, playing on at least 100 CDs and countless commercials. Frequently heard on CBC Radio, Dwyer is a three-time Juno Award winner for Best Jazz Album, and has received the K M Hunter award in 2002 for artistic excellence.

Fans have two opportunities to catch this all-star band in action and an intimate duo setting at Sylvan United Church’s Jazz Vespers in Mill Bay.

Joining the duo will be a world-class rhythm section with Ken Lister (on bass) and Josh Dixon (drums).
