Frank Zappa Freak-Out

Calgary sees the return of Michael Green and The Whip It Out Ensemble’s “Frank Zappa Freak-Out”, a two and a half hour tribute concert to the venerable musician. Featuring solid and exciting rock, jazz and comedic nonsense by Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, the show runs March 3, 4 & 5 at the Ironwood Stage, with four shows programmed over the three days.

Green, one of the founding members of Calgary theatre company One Yellow Rabbit, leads the 17 piece Whip it Out Ensemble to combine their talents for the two part show, with the first half a masterful recreation of “We’re Only In It For The Money”, and the second exploring both well known and obscure Zappa tunes accompanied by some really “out there” theatrics.

“Two and a half hours of unmitigated Zappa-madness performed by a 17-piece ensemble of Calgary’s best theatre, jazz and rock artists including: Michael Green, Andy Curtis, Onalea Gilbertson, Ty Semaka, David Van Belle, Jeff Drummond, Chipp Robb, David Rhymer, Craig Soby, Dan Meichel, Dave Foley, Brent Van Dusen, Peter Moller and Anita Miotti.
