2006 Canadian Independent Music Awards Handed Out

The sixth annual Canadian Independent Music Awards were handed out in Toronto yesterday, with Arcade Fire, Bedouin Soundclash and Dallas Green among the artists honoured. Nominees were selected by committees of industry professionals, and winners were decided by a combination of public and industry voting.

Alberta’s Sandro Dominelli, the juno award winning drummer took home the award for Jazz Artist or Group, while East Coast bluesman Garrett Mason won the Blues Artist or Group of 2006. Growing in stature each year, the awards celebrate the best in independent music.

The awards ceremony kicks off Canadian Music Week festival, wich runs March 1 – 4th, 2006. Now in its 24th year, it is the single longest running and premiere conference focusing on business of Music, bringing together Sound Recording, New Technology and Broadcast for one full week of events.
