Canadian Jazz Meets Live Theatre

Surfing Blue Theatre Collective

Jazz Yukon and Surfing Blue Theatre Collective present an evening of live music and theatre as part of the Jazz on the Wing concert series. Featuring the quartet of Jay Burr, Andrea McColeman, Dave Haddock and Lonnie Powell, the group performs a prelude of jazz followed by original music to accompany Leslie Hamson’s Surfing Blue, a theatre presentation directed by Arlin McFarlane.

The one-act play is a lyrical duologue in which two people describe their marriage of thirty-five years from very different perspectives. Surfing Blue audience comments: “absorbing, like a good book” – “beautifully, painfully beautiful” – “a polished production” – “profoundly moving”

Established in 1994, Jazz on the Wing provides a unique northern venue for Canadian and international jazz artists. Each year, between September and April, Jazz Yukon presents six shows in Whitehorse and occasionally in other Yukon communities.
