SF Jazz Collective

Under the leadership of sax wizard Joshua Redman, the SF Jazz Collective is a resident and touring ensemble of eight musician/composers who represent the very brightest stars of modern jazz, including the Canadian born pianist Renee Rosnes.

The ensemble performs a new repertoire each year, highlighting the works of a great modern jazz composer (post-1960 era) arranged by Gil Goldstein, as well as eight new works from each band member. The Collective then issues a limited edition recording featuring the year’s repertoire. For the 2006 season, the Collective is performing six works by Herbie Hancock.

Featuring the brightest stars on the planet, the 2006 edition of SFC includes artistic director and tenor saxophonist Joshua Redman, trumpet er Nicholas Payton, alto saxophonist Miguel Zenon, vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, pianist Renee Rosnes, trombonist Andre Hayward, bassist Matt Penman, and drummer Eric Harland. Grammy-winning arranger Gil Goldstein, who has prepared new octet charts for the Hancock compositions, augments the Collective.

SF Jazz Collective 2 has begun their 2006 tour, with multiple dates booked in the US, Switzerland, Poland, Spain, Portugal, and England.
