Canadian Jazz Guitarists the Marc Atkinson Trio in Calgary

(Bragg Creek, Canada) The Marc Atkinson Trio, an acoustic guitar-driven group of JUNO nominated musicians from Victoria, BC., travels to Bragg Creek (Calgary) to perform on Saturday, March 25, 2006. Featuring leader Atkinson (guitar), Joey Smith (bass) and Chris Frye (rhythm guitar) the group performs original music in a blend of jazz, folk, classical and world beat.

Acoustic Guitar Magazine voted the group’s CD, The Marc Atkinson Trio II, one of the top 5 five CDs released in North America. This CD was also nominated for best jazz album by the 2003 Western Canadian Music Awards. The Trio’s 3rd album, The Marc Atkinson Trio III was released in 2005 to critical acclaim. The Marc Atkinson Trio plays at many major folk and jazz festivals and concert halls across North America.

Marc Atkinson, a multi-instrumentalist/composer/arranger/producer, leads the group. His original compositions take acoustic guitar to a refreshing new level, his music is complex and challenging in its conception and delivery, but remains accessible and absorbing.
