Canadian “Blues Guitar Women” Raise Funds for Youth

Blues guitarists Sue Foley, Ellen McIlwaine, and Rachelle van Zanten will be in Calgary on Friday, April 7, 2006, to take part in the tenth anniversary of the Night of Artists event.

Night of Artists will feature the three headlining guitarists in a concert presentation in conjunction with a visual art exhibit featuring a host of local artists. Music by a local band accompanies the event. The annual fundraiser is held to benefit KIDS UP FRONT, a Calgary charity.

“Blues Guitar Women” are known internationally as leaders in the music industry. Foley, a Juno Award winner and recipient of multiple Maple Blues Awards, is currently writing a book entitled “Guitar Women.” The book features interviews of over 100 women guitar players from around the world, including fellow blues artists Ellen McIlwaine, renowned for her slide guitar work, and Rachelle van Zanten, who hails from the pop group Painting Daisies.

The Night of Artists event will also showcase Live Art Creation by Lewis Lavoie, an exhibit featuring over 200 original paintings by local artists. Music will be provided by the Andy McCormack Band.
