Filipino Jazz Vocalist Mon David Captures Award

Vocalist Mon David was announced the winner of the 2006 London International Jazz Competition For Vocalists in London last month. Filipino Mon David beat out 107 competitors from 25 nations who entered the competition.

As winner, David received the LIJC Vocalist 2006 award, a cheque for £1,000 ($1,750 US), two major jazz club dates, a recording contract with CANDID Records in Manila, and worldwide promotion and distribution.

Six competitors made it to the finals, where they were required to perform live for the judges and an audience at London’s prestigious Cadogan Hall.

Additional awards were handed out during the event, including The Gibson-May Award for Best Performance of an individual song, which went to Australia based Alison Wedding for her rendition of We’ll Be Together Again. Wedding performed with Mon David for the prize winner’s jazz club dates.
