Alto Saxophonist Don Berner Celebrates CD Release in Edmonton

Alto saxophonist Don Berner will appear at the Yardbird Suite on Friday, April 14, 2006, bringing in his quintet to help celebrate the release of his second album Fortress of Solitude. The CD follows on the heels of his critically acclaimed debut CD Sextet, which topped several jazz charts.

Berner is a major player in the Edmonton scene, having been featured on CBC recordings with the Tommy Banks Band and the Tilo Paiz Latin Ensemble, and made a number appearances with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra. Don has toured extensively nationally and internationally, appearing at the prestigious 5 star Grand Hyatt Hotel in Hong Kong, and over 20 U.S. states with Chicago label “Blind Pig Records” artist E.C. Scott. Don has performed in several embassies including the Canadian Embassy in Washington D.C. and the Polish Embassy in Ottawa, and recently led his sextet to Mexico’s ‘Internacional Festival de Cervantino’ and returning there to perform for the Canadian Embassy’s ‘Canada Week’.

Last year the in-demand saxophonist, composer and teacher was the Co-Producer of the first annual 2005 Yardbird Jazz Festival.
