Blues & Roots Singer Ruthie Foster Appears in Calgary Tonight

Blues & Roots musician Ruthie Foster wowed the crowd last night in Edmonton at the Jubilee Auditorium, bringing them to their feet in a spontaneous standing ovation during her opening act for the venerable Taj Mahal. Foster travels south to Calgary for tonight’s performance at Knox United Church.

The Texas-native singer and guitar player has been garnering critical acclaim for her soulful fusion of blues, gospel, roots and folk, and her fan base grows with each of her outstanding ert Hall, the Waterfront Blues Festival in Oregon, the Tonder Festival in Denmark, the Philadelphia Folk Festival, the Austin City Limits Festival, and many others too numerous to mention.

Also on the bill is Alberta singer/songwriter Karla Anderson, who topped charts with her debut release. Her song “What Else Can I Do?” was featured on television’s “Joan of Arcadia”.

“… the lady is totally blinding. She has a voice that can stand up to almost every great singer in whatever genre you care to mention, and a such great range of material. This girl should be on the front cover of Rolling Stone, if she doesn’y go big then we might as well pack it all in.”
