Smooth Jazz Vocalist Johanna Sillanpaa Releases CD

Calgary jazz vocalist Johanna Sillanpaa celebrates the official release of her debut ‘solo’ album “Good Life” tomorrow night at Mount Royal College in Calgary. To mark the evening’s event, the smooth jazz artist will perform in concert with her ensemble from the recording session.

The talented vocalist, who also co-wrote the material for the album with her songwriting parter guitarist Aaron Young, has been described as “a bluesy Erika Badu meets a Billy Holiday groove”. A native of Sweden, Sillanpaa moved to Canada in the early nineties and now makes Calgary home. She began singing professionally in her teens, and upon her arrival Canada, head off to the Banff Centre to study with jazz vocal legends Sheila Jordan and Jay Clayton. Since that time, Sillanpaa has carved a large and loyal fanbase in the region with her live performances, and receives radio airplay in Canada, the US and the UK.

Guitarist Young, with whom she regularly performs and has released one critically acclaimed albumBetter Life, will appear with her at the release. The two will be joined by the group of musicians that created the recording, including fellow co-writers Chris Andrew and Sheldon Zandboer on piano and keyboards, bassist Kodi Hutchinson, drummer Rob Vulics, and Shannon Couture on background vocals.
