Cape Breton International Drum Festival Announces 2006 Line Up

The Cape Breton International Drum Festival has announced the full line up for the 6th annual ECMA and MIANS nominated Event of the Year which is being staged in Glace Bay, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada on Saturday April 29th and Sunday April 30th, 2006.

This year sees the return of some of the most popular past festival crowd favourites, including Denny Seiwell, Paul Wertico, Sergio Bellotti, and the Festival’s World Ambassador, Dom Famularo.

Denny Seiwell, who is perhaps best known for his work with ex-Beatle Paul McCartney in the band Wings, will travel from LA for the event.

Paul Wertico was recently named as one of the Chicagoans of the Year, and is considered one of the most exciting musicians in the world.

Sergio Bellotti returns this year with Berklee Professor Skip Hadden, who is a world-renowned teacher and author.

Percussionist Hossam Ramzy, a native of Egypt who now resides in the UK, has worked with Peter Gabriel, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, and has performed on numerous movie soundtracks.

Torontonian Paul DeLong has played at many major Festivals and is one of Canada’s most in-demand first-call session drummers.

Fellow Torontonian Dale Anne Brendon, whose credits include Michael Pickett and Roger Hodgkins (Ex Supertramp), is a well known teacher and clinician.

Percussion master Lenny Castro, has appeared on hundreds of recordings, with a list of credits that reads like the who’s who of recorded music history.

The legendary Bill Cobham changed the face of drumming history when he fused Jazz with Rock when recording with Miles Davis on the classic LP “Bitches Brew”. Cobham also worked with The Mahavishnu Orchestra, and has several solo recordings.

Bill Cobham along with Groove Master Bernard “Pretty” Purdie will also receive the Cape Breton International Drum Festival “Legends Award”.

Bernard Purdie will present a Master class on Sunday, April 30th.

Styx drummer Todd Sucherman comes to Cape Breton hot from a world tour with Styx.

English drummer Gary Husband boasts credits including jazz legend John McLaughlin, Bill Cobham (as a pianist) Allan Holdsworth Group, Garry Moore (Thin Lizzy), and Jack Bruce (Cream) among the many.

Rick Faucher, drum-tech for Hal Blaine, Jim Keltner and Ringo Starr, makes a special appearance at the festival to talk about his work with these and other artists.
