Bluesman Jim Byrnes Heads Out on Western Canadian Tour

Renowned blues artist Jim Byrnes and his band will head out on a western Canadian tour on May 12th, with dates throughout B.C., Alberta and the Northwest Territories.

The Juno Award winning artist Jim Byrnes was born and growing up in the blues tradition surrounding him in his native St. Louis. Over the years, he has carved an impressive performance career, including appearing with a virtual who’s who of blues history, from from Furry Lewis and Henry Townsend to Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Albert Collins, Taj Mahal, Robert Cray, and many more.

Byrnes moved to Vancouver, BC in the mid-70’s and put together a band that became a staple of the local music scene.

His fame as an actor stems from his multiple TV roles, with highlights including the CBS series Wiseguy, Highlander, and his nationally broadcast variety show The Jim Byrnes Show.

Jim has proven that a serious car accident in 1972 has done anything but hinder him. Despite two swipes with death and some pretty hard knocks, Byrnes has still managed to rack up an enviable string of credits, both on and off-screen.

Jim’s first love, however, is the blues. His evocative, smoky vocals are found in a truth that doesn’t come overnight. During the ‘80’s, the Jim Byrnes Band released “Burnin”’ on Polydor, followed in 1987 with “I’ve Turned My Days Into Nights”, the 1995 Juno-Award winning “That River” on Stony Plain, and “Fresh Horses” on Black Hen Music, the result of a musical meeting between Jim and Steve Dawson (of Zubot and Dawson).

Jim Byrnes’ new release “House of Refuge” will be coming out June 6th, 2006 on Black Hen Music, and is a gospel/soul inspired album produced by Steve Dawson will include several of the same musicians (Chris Gestrin, Elliot Polsky, Jesse Zubot, Steve Dawson, Keith Lowe) that played on “Fresh Horses” along with a gospel singing trio from Vancouver headed by Marcus Mosely.
