Saxophonist Mike Allen Brings Jazz Home to Vancouver

Saxophonist and pianist Mike Allen finishes up the final dates of his western Canadian tour at his home of Vancouver, with a series of upcoming solo and quartet concerts. The group will appear tonight at Cellar Jazz Club, recording live for an upcoming CD release.

Allen has been touring throughout the west since mid-April with his group that features Bruno Hubert (piano), Sean Cronin (bass), and Julian MacDonough (drums), performing an original repertoire of lyrical tunes and swinging blues.

Allen is highly regarded and in-demand musician and composer, having performed and recorded with such artists as Cedar Walton, Kenny Wheeler, Gary Bartz, Don Friedman, Don Thompson, and is a member of Canadian guitar legend Sonny Greenwich’s quintet. He has recorded seven titles under his own name, and countless others as a session musician. Every one of his recordings has gained him critical acclaim, including his 2005 release Love One Another, which he is touring to support.
