Latin Trio Bomba Joins P.J. Perry for a Fiery Performance Tonight

There will be some incredible music tonight at Edmonton’s Yardbird Suite as ¡Bomba! Latin Jazz Trio joins forces with the great P.J. Perry for the second of two nights performances that fuse Central American feels with Bebop.

The three Edmonton artists that form The ¡Bomba! Latin Jazz Trio are of contrasting cultural and musical backgrounds, with drummer Mario Allende from Chile, bassist Rubim de Toledo from Brazil, and keyboardist Chris Andrew from Canada. Together they form The ¡Bomba! Latin Jazz Trio, and bring to life Latin forms from timba to rumba, to son, salsa, songo, not to mention North American funk and jazz.

Edmonton’s own alto saxophone legend P.J. Perry is high atop the wake of renewed recording vigor and international acclaim. From his newest CD, ‘Time Flies’, to the Hammond B3 inspired celebrations of his sets and recordings with organ virtuoso Doug Riley, to his infiltration of Rob McConnell’s Tentet band and his own releases garnering Juno nods and nominations, it seems like these are the days to be P.J. Perry.
