Montreal jazz pianist Marianne Trudel to appear in Calgary

Montreal pianist Marianne Trudel will make a trio appearance in Calgary at Beat Niq Jazz Club on May 25th. Trudel, an emerging artist who has captured the attention of the national media, will perform with Calgary bassist John Hyde and drummer Jon McCaslin.

Marianne Trudel is noted for performing an array of styles ranging from jazz and improvised music to popular idioms, and has accompanied the famous French singer Charles Aznavour on two of his Canadian tours, as well as performed with Québécois chanteuse Louise Forrestier, Argentinian singer and composer Juan Carlos Caceres, and French accordeonist Didier Ithursarry (Orchestre National de jazz de France).

Trudel released her first self-produced disc “Espace Libres” in 2004, and appeared on the “Montreal Jazz Club” release on Analekta Records. In Montreal and Quebec City, she has played in various settings, including solo piano recitals, trios and one special project for orchestra for which she wrote and arranged all of the music.

Currently pursuing graduate studies in Ethnomusicology at Université de Montréal, Trudel’s previous studies have included a bachelor in jazz performance at McGill University and two collegiate degrees in jazz composition and classical piano.
