Blues giant Dutch Mason honoured in Maritime event
Nova Scotia fans will celebrate their love for blues during the Dutch Mason Blues Festival Friday Aug. 11 to Sunday Aug. 13 on the waterfront in Dartmouth. The three day event features three days of concerts by local and international artists, and will honour local blues legend and Order of Canada Recipient, Dutch Mason.
Juno Award-winning Garrett Mason, son of the festival’s namesake, will kick off the event with a performance at Dartmouth’s Alderney Landing on Tuesday, Aug. 8th, warming up the main stage for appearances by by rock and roll legend Bo Diddley, Texas blues mavericks The Fabulous Thunderbirds and Tutu Jones, contemporary American blues artists Guy Davis, Sharrie Williams and The Wiseguys, and Canadian female blues hotshots Sue Foley and Roxanne Potvin. East Coast artists announced are Matt Minglewood, Charlie A’Court and both the senior and junior Masons among the many mainstage acts.
Several local clubs will host live music for the weekend, and other festival events include the Maritime Barbeque Competition, a motorcycle history display and custom bike contest, and the waterfront beer tent which will feature afternoon matinees and jams.
