Edmonton collective reClaim celebrates their CD release of “Charcoal and Crimson” in Calgary tonight at Beatniq jazz club.

Bandleader Rubim de Toledo takes on double duties as bassist and audio producer for the project. de Toledo, who specializes in Jazz, Electronic and World music, is a modern player who values the rich traditions and roots of all music he performs, and is best known with his work as co-founder and bassist for Bomba and for leading the improv/groove based collective reClaim. With this group Rubim touches on Jazzy Lounge, Drum n Bass, and World influences in a fresh way with strong compositions, improvisations and electronic influences. This May and June Rubim is musical director for Decidedly Jazz Danceworks recent production. The “In Charcoal and Crimson” disc is a result of the music composed and performed for DJD’s production of the same name.
