Jazz guitarist Bill Coon leads Trio & featured guest saxophonist Ross Taggart

Vancouver guitarist, composer and arranger Bill Coon appears with his trio and featured guest saxophonist Ross Taggart at Cellar Jazz Club this coming weekend, June 16 & 17th.

A student of the legendary guitarist Jim Hall, Bill Coon is originally from Montreal, where his numerous collaborations included groups with drummer/pianist Andre White and guitarist/vocalist Dawn Thomson. His year’s in Montreal saw him perform with many jazz greats, among them Pete Magadini, Jimmy Heath, Chuck Israels and Eddie Daniels. Moving to Vancouver in 1995, Coon continues to perform regularly with a long list of Canadian jazz elite such as Campbell Ryga, Oliver Gannon, Juno nominated vocalist Karin Plato, and is perhaps most recognized for his collaboration with award winning vocalist Denzal Sinclaire. He is also a sought after arranger/composer who currently teaches jazz guitar and composition at Capilano College in North Vancouver.

The Bill Coon Trio includes bassist Darren Radtke and drummer Dave Robbins, and often features tenor saxophonist Ross Taggart. The group previously released a critically acclaimed collection of originals and standards entitled “Speakeasy”.
