Jazz Master to Perform in Calgary

Pianist Oliver Jones makes a long awaited return to Calgary Thursday, September 7th as a headline act of the annual C-Jazz festival. The legendary musician will appear in concert with long time collaborators Eric Legace (bass) and Jim Doxas (drums).

Coming out of a short-lived but much-publicized retirement, Jones celebrates the release of his new CD “One More Time” with a series of performance dates spread across the nation.

With a career spanning over 60 years, Oliver Jones is one of Canada’s most recognized leaders in jazz. The JUNO award-winning Montreal native has garnered international acclaim for his innumerable performances and impressive catalogue of recordings, and has been honoured with a multitude of awards including the Order of Canada.

Running September 5 – 9th, the C-Jazz Carnivale! presents a variety of club and outdoor performances in various downtown venues throughout the festival. Other headline artists include vocalist/pianist Carol Welsman, Brazilian vocalist Claudia Villela, and trombonist Ian McDougall. Local artists form a healthy segment of the programming, and include the vocal duo of Sara Hamilton and David and guitarist Ralf Buschmeyer among the many.
