The University of Calgary Department of Music, headed by Dr. Jeremy Brown, has announced the lineup for University of Calgary Monday Night Jazz Series. Running through 2007, the series showcases a range of accomplished artists from across the nation.

“An intimate Jazz Encounter with Dee Daniels”
Monday, October 2, 2006 8pm
University Theatre

Female jazz vocalist, blues and gospel singer, Dee Daniels offers jazz aficionados an ultimate treat – jazz served up with full-bodied silky tones that soar to the heights and capture the depths of her four-octave range. Join Dee as she accompanies herself on piano with exceptional ease and artistry. The setting will be intimate as she takes you on a musical journey through the many styles of Jazz music including great standards, swing, blues, latin, gospel, as well as original compositions.

The Hutchinson Andrew Trio has been on the Alberta jazz scene since 2002. This unique jazz piano trio mixes contemporary swing, latin, and acoustic groove to form a unique contemporary acoustic jazz. Since the release of their first album, the Hutchinson Andrew Trio has become a regular fixture on the western Canadian jazz scene. The trio will be performing original compositions from their new album slated for release in early 2007.

Jazz trumpeter Guido Basso was a prodigy at the Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal and began his professional career at the age of eighteen years old. His 2003 release Turn Out the Stars, won a Juno Award and features Basso playing over rich string arrangements by Phil Dwyer. Joined by a Calgary rhythm section, Guido will present the evening of great American jazz works and other jazz standards.
