Diana Krall Performs for Rose Theatre Brampton Opening Gala

Brampton, Ontario, Canada’s 10th largest city, has put itself on the arts and culture map opening the world-class performance venue Rose Theatre. The impressive $55 million state-of-the-art facility projects it will see 55,000 visitors a year and offer Brampton an annual economic impact of $20 million.

To mark the occasion, the Rose Theatre held a black-tie gala attended by a near-capacity crowd. Canada’s queen of jazz piano Diana Krall, who performed with guitarist Anthony Wilson, bassist Paul Keller and drummer Jeff Hamilton in her only Greater Toronto area performance of the year. Beginning and ending with Peggy Lee classics and mixing in Nat King Cole standards, Krall charmed the audience, who paid $400 for the opportunity to see her in the intimate, 880-seat setting.

Ms. Krall, who is married to British rock star Elvis Costello, is expecting her first child in December. She was not the only jazz royalty in attendance, Canadian jazz piano legend Oscar Peterson was also in the audience for the gala event.
