Jazz Trumpeter Lina Allemano Stops in Alberta on Tour

Toronto jazz trumpeter and composer Lina Allemano brings her talent Lina to Medicine Hat on Sunday, Oct. 15, when she’ll perform at the Black Box Theatre.

Presented by the Medicine Hat Jazz Society, Allemano will appear with her own group the Lina Allemano Four.

The esteemed trumpeter is also a member of the improvising trio “N” , Tim Posgate’s Jazzstory and Horn Band , and Jane Fair/Rosemary Galloway Quintet . Lina appears on over 25 recordings including her own newly released CD, Lina Allemano Four Pinkeye .

Lina was winner of the 2005 National Jazz Awards’ CBC Galaxie Rising Star Award and she was nominated for the 2005 Canadian Independent Music Awards Favorite Jazz Artist and the 2005 National Jazz Awards Trumpeter of the Year.

Lina was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta and began playing professionally at the age of 15. She moved to Toronto in 1993 and has since toured extensively all across Canada , the US and Europe . She has had the opportunity to perform with jazz greats including tuba-legend Howard Johnson, Don Byron, Dave Holland, Mike Murley, Joe Lovano, and Kenny Wheeler.

Lina Allemano Four will be making a stop in the southern Alberta city on their cross-Canada tour over October/November in support of their newly released CD, . Allemono’s second CD as leader; it features Lina Allemano (trumpet), Brodie West (alto saxophone), Andrew Downing (bass), and Nick Fraser (drums). This dynamic group is known for its forward motion and inventiveness, crossing over from the ‘improvised music’ scene to the ‘jazz’ scene in their musical lives, and lending a fresh and free-spirited feel to the new recording. In the spirit of Ornette Coleman, their music has both a strong melodic concept and an inherent looseness and openness. A stimulating dynamic of interaction and spontaneity assures that t his group’s live performances are always lighthearted and full of surprises.
