Canada’s youngest JUNO nominee to perform with his band in Huntsville

Renowned Canadian singer/songwriter Jimmy Bowskill will appear with his band at the Algonquin Theatre in Huntsville on Friday, October 13 at 8 p.m.

The 16 year old blues guitarist/singer is Canada’s youngest-ever JUNO nominee.

Inspired by the late, great Robert Johnson, Jimmy Bowskill is a self-taught musician. Discovered busking outside Canadian blues legend Jeff Healey’s night club when he was 11 years old, he was invited onstage with Healey & his band that evening, marking an auspicious beginning to his now flourishing career.

The Peterborough native has toured internationally from Japan (representing Canada at the World Exposition), to France, Ukraine, Mexico and Canada, appearing at major festivals worldwide such as the Montreal International Jazz Festival, the Mont Tremblant Blues Festival, France’s Blues Sur Seine and Bay Car Festivals, Ukraine’s Koktebel Festival, Toronto’s Downtown Jazz Festival. He has been spotlighted on many national and regional television programs, and has opened for and shared the stage with such legends as Dickey Betts, ZZ Top, Jeff Healey, Garth Hudson and Deep Purple.

Bowskill’s debut CD ‘Old Soul’ was one of the top selling recordings for Festival Distribution, Canadianblues.ca and Iridescent Music. His most recent recording ‘Soap Bars & Dog Ears,’ was nominated for a Juno award. This nomination also made Bowskill the youngest-ever nominee at the age of 14. He is currently working on a third CD with internationally renowned producer Peter Prilesnik.

Jimmy Bowskill and his band have won numerous awards including the Canadian Independent Music Award for two consecutive years, 2004 and 2005 for favourite blues artist, plus a 2005 Maple Blues Award for Best New Artist. He is currently nominated for a Toronto Independent Music Award for best blues and also for a Just Plain Folks Award for his original tune ‘Be Mine’ from his first CD.
