Hermann’s Jazz Club to Present Espresso Trio

Hermann’s Jazz Club, Victoria’s grand-daddy of jazz venues, is presenting the Espresso Trio on Saturday, Oct. 28.

Espresso trio is formed by local greats, vocalist Carol Sokoloff, Kenny Seidman (piano) and Mike Cox (bass). The group has been performing in the Victoria area for over a year, building a solid following. Their sound is based on a mix of standards, selections from the Great American Songbooks, and originals the group calls “new standards”.

Vocalist Carol Sokoloff is a published writer and poet, children’s author and performer, as well as a singer and songwriter. She has studied with some of the greatest contemporary jazz artists including Kurt Elling, Nancy King, Louise Rose and George Essihos. Selected by Kurt Elling to perform at the opening participant concert of the 2006 Port Townsend Jazz festival, she showcased her original song ‘Winter Moon’ to an enthusiastic response.

Kenny Seidman plays a driving and sophisticated jazz piano, with dexterity, blues flavourings and a light, fresh approach to the great tunes. He studied jazz piano in New York in the Lennie Tristano school.

Mike Cox originally learned bass from his father Don Cox of the Monday Night Big band and is currently studying Music at UVic where he plays in the UVic orchestra.
