Guitarist, songwriter Gaye Delorme a National Treasure

Guitarist/composer Gaye Delorme makes a welcomed return to Calgary to perform November 10 & 11 at the Red Onion.

One of this country’s most recognized and celebrated artists, Delorme is a guitar master known for his fluid and broad artistry, which crosses from blues to jazz to flamenco, his influences ranging from the country stylings of Chet Atkins and Doc Watson to the feel of Brazil’s Jobim.

An acclaimed producer and developer of emerging talent, Gaye has produced such Canadian superstars as k.d. lang and Jann Arden and co-produced several artists in Los Angeles with critically acclaimed composer David Foster.

The Grammy-nominated songwriter spent years scoring films for Columbia Pictures before returning to his first love of live performance, touring across the nation to packed houses wherever he appears. Among his long list of credits, he includes over a decade as a signature performer and host of the International Guitar Stage at the Edmonton Folk Festival, as well as numerous other festival appearances including Calgary’s Kaos Blues Festival.

Gaye’s studio work has brought five stellar recordings to life and offers a great representation of the man’s enormous talent, the “Blue Wave Sessions”, which drew comparisons to the work of Dire Strait’s Mark Knoppfler, “Borderline”, a country-rock innovation, “Beautiful Guitar”, a musical exploration of Flamenco guitar, “Rodeo Songs”, with its country comedy crafted around Gaye’s groundbreaking hit; and his latest, a compilation of “Gaye’s Best”.

Winner of the Premier’s Award for Excellence, Gaye has caught the attention of fans and performers alike, prompting home-grown hero Colin James to exclaim “He’s a monster,” while raising the profile of Canadian music abroad and gaining recognition from celebrities like the much admired, and much missed, Stevie Ray Vaughn who labelled Gaye “One of the best I’ve heard.”
