Cellar Jazz
One of Vancouver’s rising stars, jazz pianist Amanda Tosoff and her quartet officially release her debut CD Still Life on Thursday, November 2, at The Cellar.
Still Life features original compositions by Tosoff as well as two tracks by composers Antonio Carlos Jobim and Horace Silver, and is released on the new label Cellar Live Futures. The recording was done live at Cellar Jazz on April 11 & 12, 2006, in Vancouver.
At only 22 years of age, pianist Tosoff is already capturing a lot of attention as one of Canada’s up and coming jazz talents. A recent graduate of the Capilano College Jazz program, she studied with Vancouver’s greats including Ross Taggart, Chris Sigarson, Ihor Kukurudza, Mike Allen and many more. As part of the college’s top “A Band”, Amanda had the opportunity to perform with guest artists such as Ed Thigpen, Seamus Blake, Nneena Freelon, Regina Carter, Kristin Korb, Jane Bunnett and Rob McConnell.
Tosoff has appeared at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival numerous times, as well as the Texada Island Jazz Festival, Pender Harbour Jazz Festival, and various clubs in the Vancouver area. She has opened for such jazz luminaries as Renee Rosnes and Bobby Hutcherson.
Amanda has won several scholarships including the Fraser McPherson Memorial Scholarship and Canadian Academy of Recording Arts (CARAS) scholarship.
