Murley/Braid Quartet with Tara Davidson heads west on national tour

Juno award-winners saxophonist Mike Murley and pianist David Braid bring their collaborative jazz quintet to western Canada on their national tour promoting two new CD releases. The Murley/Braid Quartet (MBQ) includes the dynamic rhythm section of Jim Vivian (bass) and New Yorker Ian Froman (drums).

Joining the MBQ for the tour is alto/soprano saxophonist Tara Davidson, who is celebrating the release of her new CD Code Breaking which features both Braid and Murley. Davidson also helps the group promote their new MBQ release, Mnemosyne’s March.

The second national tour for MBQ since forming in the summer of 2004, the ensemble first appeared at the Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal International Jazz Festivals. In January 2005 they recorded live at the Montreal Bistro in Toronto, the result being the group’s debut CD on Cornerstone Records, Mnenosyne’s March.

Tara Davidson is one of Canada’s leading new generation of jazz musicians, who at 27 has already performed around the world at such prestigious venues as New York City’s Carnegie Hall, the J.F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C., and The Sony Center in Pori, Finland. Her new recording, “Tara Davidson: Code Breaking”, features Mike Murley, David Braid, drummer Ernesto Cervini, and bassist Michael McClennan.
