Intimate jazz this Friday in Calgary with John Reid and Keith Smith

Calgary musicians John Reid (saxophone, flute) and Keith Smith (guitar) will be performing an evening of intimate jazz this Friday, Nov. 3 at Simone’s Bistro.

Musician/composer John Reid (saxophones, flute) has been a leader on the Calgary jazz scene since 1974, performing at a long list of local festivals and clubs throughout his career. He has released two CD’s Island Shuffle (1993) and Caravan (2003), and in December 2002, the John Reid Quartet performed at the Havana (Cuba) International Jazz Festival. John has lead various ensembles in the jazz, Latin, and more recently, Gospel idioms. He is also the full-time director of the Canadian Music Institute at the University of Calgary, and the Artistic Director for the Jazz Is Society.

Guitarist/composer Keith Smith is well-known for his electric, nylon, and steel string acoustic guitar work. An in-demand sideman and session player, Keith has appeared at innumerable local festivals and clubs, and performs on several recordings in the jazz, celtic and folk genres. His skills are wide and varied, with a spectrum of jazz, Latin, show tunes and originals in his repertoire. Keith was a featured artist at the first annual “Jazz at the Jack” concert at the Epcor Centre for Performing Arts.
