Portland Bluesman Closes Blues at the Bow Season
Guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Lloyd Jones and his band Struggle travel to Alberta to perform the final concert of this year’s season at Blues at the Bow, on Saturday, November 18.
Jones has been sitting on the top of the Portland music scene for more than three decades. Over the years he’s collected more than a dozen Northwest Blues Awards including best guitarist, vocalist, R&B; act, contemporary blues band, best traditional blues artist and best blues recording!
Jones describes his soulful and intelligent fusion of funk, blues, and R&B as “storytelling with a Memphis groove.” He is considered one of the most original talents on the modern day blues scene.
A mainstay on the west coast tour circuit, Lloyd Jones has performed with Roy Orbison, Bonnie Raitt, Delbert McClinton, Robert Cray, Etta James, Chuck Berry, Charlie Musselwhite, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Jimmie Vaughan, Taj Mahal, BB King, John Hammond, Dr. John, James Cotton, Earl King, Jr Wells, Buddy Guy, and many more. His sound is particularly loved by Delbert McClinton, who remarked, “When I heard Lloyd Jones live for the first time, it was like exhaling after holding my breath for fifteen years.” Lloyd has performed on board McClinton’s famous Blues Cruise as well as being his chosen guitar player at other events.
