Pianist Bill Mays Tours “Jazzy Nutcracker” Through Western Canada

New York pianist and composer Bill Mays launches another tour of his popular Jazzy Nutcracker, an evening of holiday music set to his original swinging jazz arrangements. Tour dates for the show will run December 4-15, with concerts booked in several B.C. and Alberta locations.

Joining Mays for the tour are the Toronto Chamber Jazz Septet, an all-star lineup of Canadian greats including; P. J. Perry (soprano sax, flute), Campbell Ryga (alto sax, alto flute), Tom Colclough (tenor sax, clarinet), Perry White (baritone sax, bass clarinet), Terry Clarke (drums), and Neil Swainson (bass). The group will swing their way through May’s superb arrangements of music by Bach, Bird, Debussy, Monk, Ravel, Tchaikovsky, and others.

Mays will arrive in Canada previous to the tour to perform two dates in duo settings, with bassist Dave Young November 23-25 in Toronto at Opal Jazz Lounge, and on December 3 with Neil Swainson at Whaler Bay Lodge on B.C.’s Galiano Island.
