Calgary jazz masters to appear at Yardbird this weekend

Calgary’s Manic Thematic Trio makes a trip to Edmonton this weekend to appear at the Yardbird Suite on Saturday, Nov 25.

The guitar-based jazz trio is made up of three of Calgary’s finest musicians/composers, guitarist Ralf Buschmeyer, bassist John Hyde, and drummer Andy Erickson. The group is known for their tight-knit sound, capturing the attention of media and fans across the nation for their melodic original composition and fresh approach to mainstream and bop.

Currently serving on the faculty at the Mount Royal College’s Jazz Program, Ralf Buschmeyer is a graduate of Mohawk College where he studied for 3 years with Lorne Lofsky. He is co-leader of the jazz fusion group Terrain (two independent CDs to date). Ralf has performed with PJ Perry, Guido Basso, Ingrid Jensen, Steve Slagle, Amy Sky, The Platters and Jack Semple to name a few.

Bassist John Hyde, has numerous recording, arranging and producing credits with Amos Garrett, Sheri-D Wilson, The Tanya Kalmanovitch Trio, Senator Tommy Banks, Tim Tamashiro, Craig Korth, Anne Loree, and many others. Performance credits include Rosemary Clooney, Don W. Thompson, kd lang, Jann Arden, Marion McPartland, Bill Watrous, Hugh Fraser, Oliver Jones, Mark Murphy and Decidedly Jazz Dance.

Andy Ericson discovered his love for music at a young age and has been exploring the many avenues that music has to offer. He is active in the live music and the studio scene, and has been involved in hundreds of different projects ranging from CD recordings to film soundtracks, commercials and music for live theater shows.
