Hear some Hot Jazz on a winter day in Victoria
Hermann’s Jazz Club in Victoria is host to some hot jazz this weekend when the CanUS Hot Jazz Band appears on Sunday at 4:30.
A Canadian-U.S. blend of musicians forms the group, with Jim Armstrong (trumpet, trombone), Toni Blodgett (piano), Joey Smith (bass), Don Leppard (drums), and Tom Ackerman (saxophones, clarinet).
Formed fourteen years ago, the group’s New Orleans jazz sound features a range of hot jazz, dixieland, swing, ragtime, blues, and Big Band, as well as its signature three part vocal harmonies. They have recorded 8 CD projects to date.
Voted the most requested band at the Sun Valley Jazz Festivals of 2000 and 2003, CanUS was also the top selling band at festivals in both La Crosse and Madison, Wisconsin.
Jazzbeat Magazine named the group “Best New Band (US) in their 1996 Jazzology Poll, and in November 2002, CanUS performed at the Kennedy Center For The Performing Arts Millennium Stage.
