Tenth Annual Maple Blues Awards To Take Place in Toronto

The Maple Blues Awards, Canada’s highest honours for musicians and industry persons who have made outstanding contributions to blues music in our fair nation, will this coming January 15, 2007, celebrate the tenth year anniversary of the national awards program.

In honour of the occasion ten feature performers from across Canada have been invited to join the Maple Blues Band for a performance at the awards gala presentation. The event will be hosted by Vancouver-based bluesman Jim Byrnes, who is also slated to perform along with John Campbelljohn, Ndidi Onukwulu & Madagascar Slim, Diana Braithwaite & Chris Whiteley, Harry Manx & Kevin Breit, and Rick Fines & Suzie Vinnick.

Sixteen categories are posted online, where the public is invited to submit their votes for their favourite performers. The deadline for the vote is midnight tonight. To cast your vote visit www.mapleblues.ca.

The gala event follows on the heels of Blues Summit lll, an industry conference bringing together blues festivals, societies, labels, media, musicians and fans, and will run January 13-15 at the Delta Chelsea Hotel in downtown Toronto. The conference will feature panel discussions, professional development opportunities for artists, and Blues in the Digital World. Representatives from across Canada, the United States, and Europe will be in attendance, as will the aforementioned leaders in the blues industry who will perform at the gala.
