Oliver Gannon at the Cellar this Weekend

Oliver Gannon has been called the “king” of Canadian Jazz guitar, and rightfully so. He appears this weekend in Vancouver at the Cellar with his quartet, featuring Miles Black (piano), Miles Hill (bass), Blaine Wikjord (drums).

Gannon has been a stalwart on the Canadian jazz scene since the early 70’s. Featured on numerous albums with the likes Ed Bickert and Ian McDougall, he had a long musical partnership and personal friendship with the late tenor saxophonist Fraser MacPherson, with whom he recorded 8 albums, including a JUNO award-winning duo album in 1982. In 2002 Oliver Gannon recorded his first album as a leader Live @ The Cellar with his quartet and that same year he won “Guitarist Of The Year” at The National Jazz Awards.

A Cellar favorite, the Oliver Gannon Quartet returns for two swinging nights of straight-ahead jazz. Join them as they play music from their first two CD’s ‘Live at The Cellar’ & ‘That’s What.’
