Kelowna set to boogie with Kenny ‘Blues Boss’ Wayne’
JUNO Award-winning boogie-blues pianist Kenny ‘Blues Boss’ Wayne appears this Friday, Feb. 9th at the Kelowna Community Theatre as part of the Okanagan Jazz & Blues Society’s ongoing concert series.
A modern bluesman with a traditional style, the ‘Blues Boss’ plays a blend of boogie-woogie and authentic blues. He is also a songwriter of note and sings his mostly-original material, influenced by Fats Domino, Roosevelt Sykes, Professor Longhair, and Pete Johnson, yet described in his own voice. He is also known for his flamboyant stage costumes, often in bright colours and a Fedora, the ‘Blues Boss’ cuts a fine figure.
Wayne is enjoying a career that’s on fire, with powerful blast of fuel being added by his win of the 2005 JUNO for ‘Blues Album of the Year’, and the Maple Blues Award (2005) for ‘Piano/Keyboard Player of the Year’ (he also received two Maple Blues nominations for the 2005 ‘Entertainer of the Year’ and ‘Producer of the Year’).
