Jazz Guitarists Bring Wes Montgomery’s Music to Life

Toronto’s JAZZ.FM91 continues their Sound of Jazz series on Monday, March 12th with Wes Montgomery – A Day in the Life, a tribute to Wes Montgomery.

Featuring three of Canada’s leading jazz guitarists, Reg Schwager, Lorne Lofsky, and Jake Langley, the musicians will be joined by bassist Kieran Overs and drummer Barry Elmes for the performance, which will highlight the genius of Wes Montgomery and his music.

Wes Montgomery is considered by many to be the most influential guitarist of all time. Although self-taught, he developed a style based on what he learned from listening to Charlie Christian recordings in his teens. His use of octaves along with block chords in his approach, as well as his attack on the strings which used the fleshy part of his thumb, gave the great master his unique sound that has been studied, emulated, and paid tribute since his death in 1968.
