Calgary Jazz Performance Series to Feature Jon McCaslin Collective

The Calgary Jazz performance Series continues it’s monthly presentations with the Jon McCaslin Collective, formed by four of Calgary’s top jazz artists. The concert will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at the Hillhurst-Sunnyside Community Centre.

The Jon McCaslin Collective is a new and innovative jazz ensemble featuring the combined talents of drummer McCaslin, trumpeter Bob Day, tenor saxophonist Jim Brenan, and bassist John Hyde. The group performs dynamic and original compositions and arrangements contributed by all members of the ensemble, and explores new grounds in improvisation while reflecting the dynamic history of small jazz ensemble performance.

The Calgary Jazz Performance Series was launched in November 2006, and will present a series of seven concerts in its first year of programming. The focus of the series is to showcase original works composed and performed by Calgary’s top jazz musicians and ensembles. Concerts are held once a month in intimate listening environments, and are all-ages events.

Next in the concert series on March 28 is the duo of guitarist Keith Smith and bassist Simon Fisk, two of Calgary’s most recognized jazz artists.
