CBC Radio to Record Concerts

The Yardbird Suite’s 50th Anniversary celebrations continue this weekend with the Doug Riley/Sandro Dominelli Group, featuring P.J. Perry and Jim Head.

Canada’s King of Hammond B3 Organ, Doug Riley, joins Juno award-winning drummer Sandro Dominelli to compose and perform original works commissioned by CBC for the occasion.

The group appears as part of the Yardbird’s 50th Anniversary celebrations this month, the second of five weekends of special jazz concerts featuring local, regional and international musicians.

The two nights of performances will be recorded by CBC Radio.

There will be two opening acts presented along with the featured concerts. On Friday ‘Big Ideas with Special guest Doug Organ’ appears. The Edmonton group features
Doug Organ (Hammond B3 organ), Mo Lefever (guitar), Don Bradshaw (bass), and Dan Skakun (drums). Opening Saturday is drummer Mike Gillespie and his Quintet with
Jerrold Dubyk (tenor saxophone), Wayne Feschuk (piano), Stewart Crosley (guitar), and Jordan Mann (bass).
