Guitarmania Vlll showcases a wide range of guitar wizardry
Calgary guitar lovers are in for a treat April 27 & 28 when that city sees the return of the popular Guitarmania event, presented by the Calgary Blues Music Association and Kaos Blues.
Guitarmania Vlll features a stellar lineup of seven guitar wizards for the 2007 presentation, with a range of stylists including: Ken Greer of Red Rider and The Roadhammers; Chicago bluesman Maurice John Vaughn; Vancouver’s Jerry Doucette of “Mama Let Him Play” fame; Calgary funk/jazz/blues guitarist Brent Wright (Dr. Hook, Jerry Doucette, Long John Baldry), and a contingent of Saskatchewan greats including veteran funk/blues/jazz guitarist Jack Semple, Regina’s Dan Silljer (who recently shared the stage with Robert Cray), and up-and-coming blues/rock star Megan Lane, who is taking western Canada by storm.
Following in the tradition of the popular event, each headline artist is profiled for a full set backed by an all-star band for a full weekend of guitar wizardry. The weekend offers three chances to see the guitarists in action, running Friday and Saturday nights, as well as an all-ages Saturday afternoon matinee. All seven guitarists will perform during each concert.
