Canmore Jazzfest Small but Mighty
The town of Canmore in the Canadian Rockies is presenting its second annual jazz festival June 21-23, 2007, with a roster featuring the best in Canadian jazz.
Festival organizers announced this week that kicking off the festival will be Montreal saxophonist Christine Jensen and her Quartet, featuring pianist Dave Restivo (Toronto). Venue TBA
Friday, June 22 features a spotlight on jazz piano, with Marianne Trudel (Montreal) opening with a solo performance of her original works, followed by New York pianist Renee Rosnes with Neil Swainson (bass) and Terry Clarke (drums). The event will be held at St. Michael’s Anglican Church.
On Saturday, June 23rd, a full day of jazz programming will take place at Centennial Park starting at 11:00 a.m. Featured acts will include trombonist Hugh Fraser & his Quartet, the Marianne Trudel Quintet, the Jon McCaslin Collective, the Westwinds Music Society Jazz Orchestra, The G’razz Band, the Colin Story Quartet, and the Canmore School Band.
